50 Years Soul-A-Bration Bash at University of Memphis
Memphis , TN February 13, 2007 - Join the Soul-A-Bration of over 50 years of Memphis soul music! The University of Memphis is serving up a platter of sweet, hot-buttered soul on Friday, February 23, 2007. U of M Minority Affairs and Memphis Music and Entertainment Industry Students Association (MEISA) invite you to celebrate Black History Month with a full-fledged 70’s Costume Concert Soul-A-Bration at the University of Memphis Rose Theater. Doors open at 7 pm. Admission is free and open to the public. Can you dig it?
The
evening kicks off with a funky party fueled by DJ Redeye Jedi. Master DJ of the Tunnel Clones and re-mix artist for the Hustle and Flow soundtrack , the Jedi will be spinning alongside old-school go-go dancers. The party features a VIP reception and Hors d’oeuvres. Funk heroes Con Funk Shun top off the Soul-A-Bration with a special LIVE performance. Discovered by Estelle Axton (Co-founder of STAX), southern soul legends Con Funk Shun have been grooving since 1969. “Love Train”, “Chase Me” and “Ffun” include just a few of Con Funk Shun’s classic hits. The event is part of the 50 th Anniversary of STAX Records and Soul Music. So if you are a lover of soul music past and present, FUNK-A-TEERS young, old and in between are welcome to join the Soul-a-bration. Admission is free. Funky attire is strongly encouraged.
